What a way to end the week!

I'm sitting in the classroom and Chief Davis asks me to take the coffee pot back in the office.

We have a 2 in/2 out policy and my partner Ron McGee heads to the office with. We Get in the office and I plug the coffee machine in and Instructor Baker asks me to pull up chair and have a seat.

FUCK! What did I do now? My mind is racing trying to think back and remember if I missed something or said something stupid.

I sit down and wait for him to finish what he's doing...silence...sweat...more silence...Instructor Baker turns to me and says:

"There are a few people in the department who don't think you're going to make it through this time and we make a lot of jokes that you'll be "done again", but I wanted to let you know that I see a major difference in you from the last time around. I know you have a lot of aches and pains from the running but you're doing a great job and keep up the good work. Continue what you're doing and you'll be on the line in no time."

Fuck Yeah! That's the best news I heard in a while. I'm glad they see I'm working my ass off and the effort I put into this academy.

1101 - Always Brothers... Miss you Tony

My brother Tony was supposed to be in class with me at the fire academy. Unfortunately, his injury has prevented him from doing so. I miss having him with me. We had a good time in class cracking jokes and being silly. A few of the guys from class got together and hung out with Tony while he was here visiting his girlfriend Jen.

Tony should be moving down soon once he gets everything settled in Denver. See you soon boo!

Sweaters I'm Diggin' This Winter.

It's no secret I'm the sweater KING. This Holiday sweater from JCREW is boss, I love the way the colors come together without looking dorky. Not sure I would wear it with a denim shirt under it though.

The cable cardigan made from donegal wool is probably worth it's weight in warmth. A sweater like this would look good over a navy or plain white v-neck tee.

Pair it with dark denim and chocolate suede wing-tips.

Pucker Factor

24 weeks to go

Week 2 at the Tower.

Physical training today was ok today aside from my never ending shin splints. We did a 2.4 mile run and unlike last year, I wasn't last. I kept a steady pace and felt good. I must say that my Brooks running shoes are doing the trick.

Between the shoes and Tylenol arthritis extra strength I should be just fine.

The best part was that I closed out the day with 16 pull-ups. 3 more than I did the day before. Ganksta!

Field Trip!!!

We had a field trip today to Station 6 on King and Cannon street. This is the fire station I lived at for 3 months when I first came to Charleston. I really loved living in such a historic fire station. Just the idea of living in a 100 + year old station was amazing. Imagine all the firefighters that walked the same steps and slid down the same fire pole as me.

Both of my Battalion Chiefs were also stationed at Engine 6 and it made me quite proud that they allowed me to stay there during training. I kept the station as clean as possible every day because I wouldn't dare embarrass them by being a lazy recruit.

Here's some info I found on a site talking about the history of the station.

Station 6
5 Cannon Street
Built 1887-88

The third fire station built after the 1886 earthquake was a new Station 6. It replaced the former Marion Steam Fire Engine Company just down the block.

Each of the three stations had a Silsby boiler on the first floor, for both heating and keeping hot water circulating at all times in the steamer.

More pics to follow.
